Employment positions at Camp SAM

Counselors

Camp Counselors co-lead and engage a group of 15-20 campers. That group becomes their “family unit” for the duration of the summer. They travel from station to station and engage their campers in various games, activities and crafts while ensuring their safety and well-being. They assist campers with developing friendships, new skills, and confidence.

AM/Kitchen Counselors supervise and engage the campers during Before Care (7-9AM). They organize games as well as serve Camp breakfast. Once the regular camp day begins at 9AM, they prepare, coordinate and serve Camp lunches and snacks. They also assist with morning drop-off.

PM Counselors supervise and engage the campers during After Care (4-6PM). They organize games as well as serve Camp snack. They also assist with afternoon pick-up and end of day camp cleanup.

Management Staff

Camp Coordinator supervises the daily operations of camp, as well as serves as a liaison between counselors and parents. They assist with daily drop-off and pick-up. They help design and execute special activities, events and theme days.

Kitchen Coordinator supervises the staff and campers in Before Care (7-9AM) and coordinates morning drop-off. Once the regular camp day begins, the Kitchen Coordinator prepares, coordinates and serves camp lunch and snack. They also complete weekly inventory and request supply orders.

Medical Coordinator/Camp Nurse monitors the daily well-being of all campers and staff. They dispense daily medications to campers, respond to emergency medical situations when they arise, communicate with external health/allied health professionals as necessary, prepare and restock camp first aid kits and supplies, and document patient care.

Waterfront Leader supervises the daily operations of the pool area and ensures the safety of all swimmers and non-swimmers in that location. They manage and train all waterfront staff/lifeguards, assist the main lifeguard with swimmer supervision and buddy checks, conduct swim tests and maintain a logbook of all swimmer levels. They also test and document the pool water chemicals throughout the day. They maintain a waterfront clipboard with swimmer levels, water quality, pool maintenance, etc. on a daily basis.

Management Staff

Camp SAM Activity Leader/Sports Clinic Instructor instructs daily sports clinics to campers in an age-appropriate manner. They also assist with sign-out in the afternoons.

Camp SPIRIT Activity Leader/Cheer Clinic Instructor teaches cheerleading, dance and tumble clinics for campers in an age-appropriate manner. They also instruct daily tumbling activities.

Camp GLAM Activity Leader/Arts And Crafts Clinic Instructor designs and executes specialized Glam clinic activities for campers in an age-appropriate manner. They also lead daily arts & crafts activities.

Management Staff

Support Staff

Lifeguards maintain constant surveillance of campers in and around the pool, respond immediately and appropriately in the event of an emergency, ensure cleanliness of the pool area, assist with regulation of water chemicals and vacuum the pool as needed.

Maintenance/Equipment Manager completes general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, maintains, inventories and stores all camp equipment and sport supplies, as well as pool equipment. They are also responsible for the overall upkeep of campgrounds where outdoor sports or lawn sports such as soccer, basketball and football, are played. They maintain logs of all equipment inspections and daily usage. They store and organize lost and found for parents to claim.

Janitorial/Grounds Manager maintains cleanliness of indoor and outdoor campgrounds, empties trash cans throughout the day, cleans bathrooms and cafeteria daily, sweeps and mops common areas as well as sport courts.

Support Staff

Photographer/Digital Media Specialist captures daily images and videos of campers, activities, special events and facility. They create a weekly media slideshow/newsletter to share with camp families as well as manage camp social media platforms with tips, videos, photos and video blogs. They update the monthly camp website blog and create short videos to be used for camp marketing materials. They compile memory DVDs with videos, photos and slideshow for the season.

Security Officers monitor daily drop-off and pick-up and ensure the overall safety of campers and staff each day. They patrol campgrounds and conduct safety checks, respond to all camp emergencies and notify proper authorities when necessary. They also assist management staff with safety drills.

Volunteers learn the ins and outs of day camp by assisting management staff in areas where needed. They must be 16+ years old, pass all employment screenings and provide valid references.
